Design starts with your load, not your roof

Any installer can tell you how many panels fit on a roof. The harder and more valuable question is how much of that generation you will consume on site at the moment it is produced. We pull your half-hourly data, overlay a modelled generation curve for your orientation and pitch, and size the system against the overlap.

Where your demand sits mostly outside daylight hours, storage becomes the lever rather than more panels. Where you run heavy daytime plant, a larger array with no battery is often the better return. We will say which applies to you before you commit capital.

Structural, electrical and planning reality

A commercial roof needs a structural assessment before it takes several tonnes of ballast or fixings. We survey the roof build-up, confirm remaining membrane life, review your incoming supply and switchgear capacity, and handle the G99 or G98 connection application with your DNO. Most commercial rooftop schemes sit within permitted development, but we confirm that rather than assume it.

Funding routes

Capital purchase gives the strongest lifetime return and, for qualifying UK businesses, capital allowances apply. Where capital is better deployed elsewhere, a funded route such as a power purchase agreement puts the asset on someone else's balance sheet and sells you the generated units below your import rate. We will model both against the same consumption data so the comparison is honest.

Commercial Solar: your questions

How long does a commercial solar project take?

Feasibility and design usually take two to four weeks. Grid approval is the variable — a G98 notification is quick, while a G99 application on a constrained network can take several weeks. Installation itself is typically one to three weeks depending on array size.

Do I need a battery?

Only if your demand sits substantially outside generation hours. For a daytime-heavy operation such as manufacturing or cold storage, panels alone often deliver the better return. We model both before recommending either.

What happens to electricity I do not use?

It is exported and paid for under a Smart Export Guarantee tariff. Export rates are well below import rates, which is exactly why we design for self-consumption first.

Will the roof take it?

That is what the structural survey answers. If the roof cannot carry the load, or has under ten years of membrane life left, we will tell you before you spend anything on design.
